2 - Peter Visits Jack

One sunny day, Peter's parents drove him to Jack's house. Peter was excited because he wanted to play with Buster, the dog.

When they arrived at the house, Peter and Jack went outside in the back yard. Peter said, "I always make sure the gate is closed so Buster can't get out of the yard and run to the street. Let's play!"

Buster had fun running to grab his ball and his other toys when the boys threw them. Jack showed Peter the tricks that he had taught Buster. Buster could come when he called, "Here, Buster!" Buster could jump over a pole. Peter said, "Buster is so much fun. I wish I had my own dog but Mom and Dad said I had to pay for a dog. They cost lots of money."

Jack said, "Yes , they do cost money. I earn some money to pay for Buster's toys and treats and collars by doing work."

Peter asked, "What kind of work?"

"I take the garbage out on garbage day and I clean up m room. Sometimes I do some cleaning in the garage or yard. Oh yeah, I clean up Buster's poop too," replied Jack.

"Yuck! I don't want to pick up poop," said Peter.

"Oh, you have to when you have a dog," said Jack, "Dad always says poop isn't going to jump into the garbage bag by itself."

Peter thought about it. Maybe he could just play with Buster on weekends instead of getting his own dog.
